Miss Jones and I would like to say a huge welcome to our new Eco Warriors this year.
We had a hugely successful first year running the club and with our Warrior’s help, we achieved a bronze Eco Schools award and the silver Woodland Trust award!
This year, our Warriors have been offered a fantastic opportunity- an after school club! With help and support from the Durham Wildlife Trust, Mandy will be running the monthly sessions which will enhance the children’s knowledge about wildlife & give them skills and ideas to encourage more wildlife into their gardens.
We had a great time at the first club, the Warriors got to take part in a range of activities & we even got to meet a baby hedgehog called Tiggy.
Our session started off with sorting some true or false facts about hedgehogs.I wonder if you can work out if this fact is true or false: the name for a baby hedgehog is a hoglet.
We then got to meet a baby hedgehog that Mandy had recently rescued, when Mandy first found Tiggy she was starving, so she has looked after her and soon Tiggy will be released back into the wild.
We played a fun game using different coloured worms, this was to teach us the danger of slug pellets in the garden. Sadly many hedgehogs become unwell because they eat poisoned slugs.
Finally, we made some brilliant hedgehog models to take home with us & remind us of all we had learnt.
We’re really looking forward to seeing our warriors again at our next session which is on Tuesday the 13th of November!
